~From My Beloved Soulmate~

0
Salam Aidilfitri to every one.

I'm working today... best jugak pergi office time everbody still on Raya & Holiday mood. Jalan tak jam & office kosong...hehe what a pleasure.... Ofis ini aku yang punya!

Having my second Raya experience without my beloved chenta~hati, memang sedih but this time i have my little precious with me & i know he always dekat di hati... at least i have my family to celebrate Raya, my chenta~hati was alone, far-far away from his beloved family...kesian dia.

Bersyukur kepada ALLAH SWT dengan dugaan yang diberikan, semoga kami menjadi insan yang lebih cekal & sensiasa mensyukri segala nikmatnya...

Got this lovely msg Raya from my chenta~hati, it make me cry di pagi syawal... thanx abang & i do love u & miss u very-very much!

If one day when u feel like crying...call me.
I don't promise that I will make u laugh, but I can cry with u.

If one day u want to run away...don't be afraid to call me.
I don't promise to ask u to stop, but I can run with u.

If one day u don't want to listen to anyone...call me.
I promise to be there for u, but also promise to be very quiet.

But if one day u call me...and there is no answer, come to see me.
Perhaps I really need u....

If I ever ignored u, I'm sorry...
If I ever made u feel bad or put u down, I'm sorry again...
If I ever thought I was bigger or better than u, I was wrong...

One thing that I'm not wrong...

to love u & having u in my life.
I will luv u forever...

I'm sorry for every wrongs that I've done.
During this Syawal,
I would like to seek ur forgiveness upon any wrong doings that have unintentionally hurt ur feelings.

Semoga Syawal ini akan mengeratkan lagi perhubungan kita sebagai SAHABAT & KEKASIH.
Luv u & Fatihah so much....

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI & MAAF ZAHIR & BATIN

~Updates~

A quick updates on the last two months of my activities.
  1. 3rd July-1st August 2008: My lovely wife Nani & Fatihah, together with my in-laws had came for a month-visit. Hope all of them had a great time here. So sorry that I couldn't manage to plan for a fancy trip over Europe due to work loads and time constraint. Wish to have it on the next visit.
  2. Early August: My parents, brother and sister had came for half a month-visit. Again, couldn't managed to spend a lot of time together. Been able to spend only few days at my home and the rests for a wonderful trip to Ireland, Paris & Swiss, which had been prepared by my sister.
  3. Today is the 9th day of Ramadhan. Ramadhan Mubarak to all muslims...may faith in Allah lead us to happiness.

~Beautiful Disaster~

2
Happened in Shanghai, China & pictures are taken from http://www.archdaily.com/27245/building-collapse-in-shanghai/

Structural Engineers = 1
Geotechnical Engineers = 0

A perfect topple for nearly completed 13-story building. And also a great example on the importance of foundations & footings (geotechnics & soil mechanics- the hardest subject I've ever learn :) )

Someone had told me before, "the difference between architect & civil engineer is that : if something is beautifully & gorgeously built, people will remembers the architect who designed it, but civil engineer will only be remembered if something wrong happened". So, architect get the name & civil engineer only get the blame. Seems that I had made a wrong choice in career then :)

~80's iPod~

2
Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8117619.stm

BBC Magazine gave 13-year-old Scott Campbell a gen-one Walkman in place of his MP3 player for a week, then gathered his impressions on the device: It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.

Another notable feature that the iPod has and the Walkman doesn't is "shuffle", where the player selects random tracks to play. Its a function that, on the face of it, the Walkman lacks. But I managed to create an impromptu shuffle feature simply by holding down "rewind" and releasing it randomly - effective, if a little laboured.

I told my dad about my clever idea. His words of warning brought home the difference between the portable music players of today, which don't have moving parts, and the mechanical playback of old. In his words, "Walkmans eat tapes". So my clumsy clicking could have ended up ruining my favourite tape, leaving me music-less for the rest of the day.

Sony Walkman
1: Clunky buttons
2: Switch to metal (that's a type of cassette, not heavy rock music)
3: Battery light - usually found flickering in its death throes
4: Double headphone jack (not to be found on an iPod)
5: Door ejects - watch out for flying tapes and eye injuries

I still remember having the walkman (can't really remember what the brand was..probably Philips) and it was the coolest gadget during that ages (late 80's & early 90's). Carrying around while listening to self-recorded songs (which were dubbed from either radio or another cassetes) and although it is quite bulky, nobody ever questioned about it. If u own a walkman, u are following the trend on that time :)

It is true that walkman "eat" tapes. Always got a problem when tape stuck between the rollers inside it. U have to take the cassete out & carefully pull the stuck "tali kaset" in between the rollers (so that u won't break the line....something it happens too despite how careful u are & u have to joint the "tali kaset" using sellotape).

I use rechargeable battery to enjoy listening to music & have to use "economical" methods to save the battery life: use ball pens as "rewind/fast forward" mechanisms. U have to repeatedly playing around with the rewind/fast forward button in order to get to the song u want to listen (no shuffle function though).

Can't remember where my walkman have gone. It could be something nostalgic and antiques nowadays and could be sell as the rare items on eBay. Wonder if there is still anybody carrying it around today...

2
My home is eerily quiet. Usually I’m spending most of weekday’s time in the office (exception on the lazy day of mine, when I’m feeling that sleep is the best thing to do and don’t want it to let go away :) ).

I’m usually back at home around 6-7 pm. It’s returning to an empty house and there is no one to greet, complain or ask something as soon as I’m taking off the shoes. Then, I’ll have dinner in living room, watching another re-run of Simpsons on Sky1. I’ll let the idiot box run while I’m doing something else, either continuing the office’s works or surfing the internet. I’ve already get used to having all of my time to myself....I cook whenever I want to cook of whatever I want to eat (which usually ended up with either ayam goreng or ayam masak kicap), having the sight of undisturbed house (I'm very particular (or fussy?) about arrangement of things in the house) and I don’t have to share the TV with anyone. I love the peace and quiet. However, I’d also love to cook for someone else other than just myself. Not really means that I can prepare the best meals, but there is nothing sadder than a meal for one.

But this will pass in the next few weeks when my lovely wife & Fatihah (OMG...she has grown almost 8 months without me) together with the in-laws come to UK. And will be followed by a half month visit from my parents, brother & sisters. Can’t wait to have family gathering somewhere far away from Malaysia. Not really planning for a fancy Euro-trip (it’s summer & everyone is taking their day off, so ££ is really matters for a trip), but sure we’ll having a good time then.

~London Trip~

4
Last Saturday (13th June), I'm finally able to go out from Notts after 4 months being stuck preparing my first year assessment (which has already been done on 2oth May). London, I'm going to. I've never been to London before, although almost 2 years being here. Just been there on transit during my trip to Paris.

The trip was planned about 2 months ago, together with Pok Lah. We have decided to take a coach and planned for a day trip. Shouldn't be a problem to go around London within a day due to the long days of summer. Our coach departed around 7.30 am and scheduled to arrive back in Notts at 11.30 pm.

Arrived at Victoria Bus Station at around 10.30 am, and our first place-of-interest was Malaysian Hall...we were going for the food. Bought a 1-day ticket of £5.60 (which allows for travelling within Zone 1 and 2), and we were headed to the Bayswater Station (the nearest station to the Malaysian Hall). Having our lunch and prayer over there. The food just so-so, but can be said to be worth having since we are in UK. Bila lagi nak merasa makan sambal udang petai, pajeri terung, ikan keli etc. kat sini.

Pok Lah buying some souvenir on the way back to Bayswater Station. Luckily, it was cheaper to buy here compared to other places around London which we have been for

Next place was the Tower Bridge. I've noticed that almost every weekend (Saturday & Sunday), there were service disruption for the underground stations, which also occurred on our day trip. So, we have to take 3 trains to arrive at the London Bridge Station (termasuklah 1 train yang tersilap naik).

We spent most of the time walking along the River Thames, taking pictures and cuci mata. Banyak tempat & permandangan menarik along the river. Tower Bridge and also London Bridge.

London Bride

Tower Bridge

Our next destination was London Eye, House of Paliament & Big Ben. From London Bridge Station, we took the Northern Line tube towards Waterloo Station. Waterloo Station is nearby the London Eye. Another places of great scenery for pictures.

London Eye-Have to book the ticket earlier due to the long queue

House of Parliament & Big Ben

A demonstration being held in front of the Churchill Monument nearby House of Parliament. Protest towards Sri Lanka on human right issues

Last place for the trip was Buckingham Palace. Since it was almost 5.00 pm and most tube services was already closed due to the maintanence works, we decided to talk a walk to Buckingham Palace, which took us for about 15 minutes to reach there. Main attraction at Buckingham Palace is the Queen's Guard (polis baju merah & topi tinggi) which I thought boleh bergambar sama2. But the guards were about 100 metre inside the palace which visitors can't allowed to enter. So, dapat snapped pictures through the fence je. Sempat la jugak tengok the guards changing shift, at 7.00 pm.

After that we headed back to Victoria Coach Station to catch our coach at 8.30 pm. Having our dinner there, before boarding off onto the coach and arrived at Notts at 11.30 pm.

~Half Way to Go!~

0
Alhamdullillah. After almost 1 & half year being here as PhD candidate, on 20th may I'm finally able to confirm my status as PhD student. It was not before I’m passing the assessment.

My presentation was done quite smoothly (although having “errr” & “aaa” here & there), and the assessment went well. Really paid off after all the hard work that had been done before. All praise to Allah whom I always seek help to at the time when I feel like on giving up. Also thanks for the support from my beloved Nani & Fatihah, family & friends (chewahh…dah macam finishing my study je, padahal baru 1st year assessment. But it was really tough when u’re doing at NTEC). Now I can lay off enjoying the summer :)

My wife has opened an online store for selling pre-loved clothes, shoes and stuffs belong to ours Fatihah. At last...she managed to create her own blog. Thanks God!!....after all this while of keep asking me to create one for her. I'm always giving some lame excuses (busy, lazy, nanti2 la) whenever she asked me. Not really busy with my works, but just want to let her do it on her own. I knows that she's too lazy to learn somethings that is new to her. But, to create a blog doesn't need you to be a rocket scientist. Even budak sekolah rendah skrg pon dah ada their own blog. If I'm creating one for her, I'm really sure that I'll be the one who need to update the blog...

Seems like her blog now doing quite good. Nice layout and bisnes pon dah maju :) Good luck and may be next year we'll have to find a shop lot to expand our bussiness eh. Do visit her at http://nani-pojan-hanifatihah.blogspot.com

~My Flash Games :) ~

3
Just read in yesterday's Harian Metro (or few days back...really can't remember, I'm losing my short terms memory now :)...damn to the PhD (permanent head damage)) about one game that has been created specially for Norman Hakim, entitled "Lepas Geram Kat Norman Hakim". Based on Harian Metro (what the heck...i'm writing just like i'm preparing a report!!), the flash game requires the player to kick Norman as far as possible.

Firstly I was impressed with the person who create the game, since I thought that he must spent a lot of time and creativity in creating the game (he must be someone who really hate Norman....possibly die-hard-fan of Abby or ex-bf of Memey (who's Memey??...just know her after read the story of divorce of Norman-Abby). But after found and play the game, it is just a simple game to create. No time wasting, no creativity needed and it is free too. Just pop up any picture onto the pre-built flash game...and it's ready to be played. Not only Norman Hakim, even Siti Nurhaliza's game can be created too. Then put in some fancy title, put the game on ur website and for sure after 1-2 weeks, u'll be on the headlines of Harian Metro. But have to take a risk on being sued....sebab zaman sekarang nie hal remeh temeh pun nak saman menyaman.

Back to the flash game, rather than playing the Norman's game, it's better to create my own game :) So here are my two game...the first one called "Mari Picit Jerawat Nani" since she loves to squeeze my pimples once upon a time. And the second is the kisses for my lovely daughter. I'm taking my night off for today after few weeks preparing for report...that's why i got time to do some junk reading on Norman's issues, creating the games and writing this post.

Note: Picit jerawat je, jangan picit tahi lalat!!

~Snow in Nottingham 2009~

0
It has been quite a long time since the last update I'd made on this blog. Been really busy lately...trying to finish up some reports (which I've already managed to submit), planning up my future works, read tonnes of journal papers, etc....Few things had happened back then which includes heavy snowfalls in Notts. Although I've experienced the snowing in Notts last year, this time is the heaviest and longest snowfall ever happened in the past 18 years.

Firstly I thought it was fun for having snow to fall everyday and carpeting the ground in white. But after 2-3 days of the heavy snowfall, I started to feel quite difficult to move around. Nak jalan pun dah macam orang baru lepas bersunat....it was very slippery. Public transportation schedule have been badly distrupted (I've to take a taxi for going home from my school after 1 hour waiting for the last bus which didn't come) and most schools and shops have been closed due to snow. Even the early predictions and warnings about the snowfall, people were not expected to have such a heavy snowfall as this time. But everybody seems to be enjoying their snowy days, including me. Gone for picture snapping and snow sledging at the Wollaton Hall, but just for about 1 hours. Really felt cold escpecially after wetting my gloves with snow during sledging.

Here's some pictures taken during the snowy days-the first weeks of the February 2009.

My backyard is carpeting with snow
